Ford has filed a patent for a method to protect the exterior and interior surfaces of a vehicle from overheating. The patent includes designs for automatically heated and cooled seats, as well as a sun monitoring and protection system. Both technologies are designed to keep the car's interior from getting too hot or too cold.

Modern smartphones are capable of warning about overheating, but this has not yet been used in cars. That could change if Ford's patent sees the light of day. The system could detect when the screen temperature exceeds a temperature threshold, alert the user and initiate a cooling procedure. It's not just about protecting the screen electronics, but about the comfort of display control. Many people are familiar with the situation in a car heated by the sun: touching a hot screen, steering wheel or seat belt buckle.

Ford also previously filed a patent for retractable roof rails for pickup trucks. Rail systems will raise and lower at the touch of a button. When not in use, the roof rails can be stowed inside the side of the body. Apparently, future Ford models will receive a big technological upgrade. We are waiting for official announcements!
