Ram is looking forward to introduce the 2025 Ram 1500 TRX, which takes a significant break from tradition and marks a departure from two decades of using the Hemi V8 engine. The upcoming model will be equipped with a high-performance Hurricane engine.
For the first time since 2003, the Ram 1500 ditches the iconic Hemi V8 in favor of a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter Hurricane I6 engine. Output is expected to be over 510 horsepower, which is a remarkable shift in power dynamics. With modern upgrades, a version of this engine can be pumped up to 550 hp. The engine will be working with a reliable ZF 8HP75 8-speed automatic transmission, the same transmission found in the current Ram 1500 Hemi V8.
Spy photos and video of the new Hurricane-powered TRX provide a glimpse of exterior updates for the 2025 model year. While the front end remains under wraps for now, insiders are predicting a new headlight and grille design that will closely match the current aesthetic. The wider grille is ostensibly intended to increase airflow for the turbocharged engine, although its effect on water-crossing ability remains unknown yet.
Thanks to a recent 'spy-shot' video, we have the opportunity to hear 3.0 Inline 6 on city streets. The test driver presses the gas pedal hard after a turn, giving us a chance to listen carefully to the exhaust sound. Of course, the Hellcat's roar will be missed. If you're in the market for a 702-horsepower Ram TRX with a Hemi V8, you'll want to hurry before this model changes the engine!
