Ford Maverick EcoBoost and Hybrid are starting production

It's been a rocky start for the 2021 Ford Bronco. Ford's reborn off-roader is one of this year's most anticipated new models, but challenges caused by the semi-conductor shortage and quality issues with the roof forced Ford to delay production of the 2021 Bronco. But the Bronco isn't the only important new model Ford is launching this year.

Slotting below the Ranger, the Ford Maverick has been a massive success, proving doubters wrong that there is demand for an affordable compact pickup in the US. Ford's new compact pickup entered production last week ahead of dealer deliveries starting this fall. Everything seemed to be going to plan, but the hybrid version has already hit a roadblock.

According to a Ford dealership bulletin letter shared on the Maverick Truck Club forum, production scheduling for the 2022 Ford Maverick has been halted "until further notice". This means a lot of Maverick hybrid orders haven't been scheduled to be built yet and Ford hasn't said how long the delay will last. The scheduling halt affects both dealership stock and retail/customer orders. Ford hasn't said what is causing the delay but it won't be a surprise if the semiconductor chip shortage is to blame.

The dealership bulletin also confirms that FWD 2022 Ford Mavericks will no longer be available with a Trailer Tow Package. With the Trailer Tow Package installed, AWD versions of the Maverick can two to tow up to 4,000 pounds.

As the most affordable and efficient version of the Maverick, the hybrid truck is likely to be the most popular model. Starting at $19,995, the base model is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with an electric motor producing a combined 191 horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque.

The more powerful 2.0-liter EcoBoost version rated at 250 hp and 277 lb-ft is not affected by the scheduling delay, however. If you want to get behind the wheel of the Maverick as soon as possible, the 2.0-liter EcoBoost is your best option right now.
